April Rep team tryouts will be organized and administrated by the NHGHA. The NHGHA will require that all participants are registered for tryouts and will set flat fees which all participants will be charged and collected by the NHGHA, prior to the start of the tryouts. Additional details on this to follow in the coming weeks
All NHGHA players, from Rep and House League are encouraged to attend the tryouts for the highest Rep level available for their age division. However, they not required to do so as per the below rules.
Any returning Rep player must attend the tryouts for the category higher than that of their previous year, if offered. For divisions with 2 teams projected, then returning players must attend all tryouts until committed or released. If there are 3 or more teams in a division, the following rules will apply. In this example if there are A, BB and B teams for the upcoming season:
- Any previous year B player, is invited to tryout for the A team, but are not required to do so. They must tryout for the BB team.
- Any previous year BB player must attend the A tryout.
- Any previous year AA or A player must attend the A tryout.
All players will continue in the tryout process until either selected or released by a Head Coach for the upcoming season. Should a player receive a selection/commitment letter to a NHGHA Rep team and chooses to decline the offer, the player becomes ineligible for the upcoming Rep season and will only be available for NHGHA House League selection, regardless of the Rep category they had declined.
To the NHGHA Board of Directors,
We’d like to sincerely thank the Twisters for their support to ensure that Hannah’s exchange partner from France, Pauline Quiclet, had the most incredible “Canadian” experience while staying with us for three months.
My daughter is passionate about being on the ice, both for hockey and figure skating, and loved being able to share this experience with Pauline. We are most grateful to those involved who figured out a way to allow Pauline to participate on a midget hockey team this season and helped assemble enough equipment – she told us this was one of her most treasured memories of her time with us.
Pauline had skated only twice before and showed a lot of bravery to step on the ice with full equipment, minimal English and amongst girls who for many, had played together since novice. I had no doubt our team would embrace Pauline as a teammate and be there to help her both on and off the ice, but there were many girls on opposing teams who supported her as well whether it was with a few encouraging words, or simply helping her up from a fall. I also know other team coaches went out of their way to encourage her, including inviting her out to play for their team when missing a number of players and guiding their team on how to help Pauline score a goal in her last game. Even the refs were supportive during those initial first games. Pauline improved so much during the short time she was with us, certainly because of her determination but also because the Twisters welcomed her so warmly.
Pauline asked that I forward a note she texted to me, so in her own words, please see below:
I had a lot of fun to play hockey. In the beginning it was difficult. I don’t know how to skate but I made progress and I scored in my last game so I am really happy. Everybody was really nice. I am sad to leave. It was a great experience, I won’t forget.
I will miss you!
This experience has made us very proud to be part of the Twisters.
Thanks so much,
The Borotsik Family
